Blue Ride Program 2023

Blue RiDE is all about advanced group riding skills. You'll develop those skills while training for a 50 mile ride. RiDErs need basic familiarity with shifting and braking systems of their road bike and the fitness ability to complete a 25+ mile ride with 1 or 2 rest stops on week one of Blue RiDE… so you must start with a base of fitness and some endurance.

Ongoing attendance of the scheduled RiDEs and weekly training on your own will be strongly encouraged, and required in some cases… skipping RiDEs and mid-week training will prevent participants from building the necessary endurance to complete the program.

We have a clear severe weather policy to help our RiDErs stay safe, but we ride in ever-increasing temperatures/heat, occasional strong winds, and may even encounter unexpected rain. RiDErs should be prepared for this physically and mentally.

We form small groups depending on need and speed. You will have a team that helps you learn advanced group skills. These skills are also great for the stronger solo rider or triathlete. It’s a great way to RiDE and meet like-minded people from all parts of the KC Metro area... All while learning the skills necessary to participate in area group rides with all the new friends you will make!

Road bike, helmet, cycling computer required. See FAQ for more information.

You need to complete a 20+ mile ride on rolling terrain (3-6% grades ) so we can place you in a group with similar pace. We will require a screenshot or link to a recent (this year) ride you've done from Strava, Garmin, RideSpot, MapmyRide, etc. so we can verify the speed, distance and overall time. After registration, please email your ride to barbara.w@cyclingkc.org. We'll send you a reminder after you register.

Most importantly, you should be open to coaching/active instruction, serious about safety, and committed to advanced group skills like rotating pacelines.
