Leawood Kansas Local Trail Building Day.

OK as a supporter of all cycling and advocacy do I have a great opportunity for you. If your organization requires you to give a few volunteer hours each year this is one way you can give back to generations to follow. So many people are worried about leaving our carbon foot print in the no so good way so how about leaving your carbon foot print in a way many people will appreciate you for all your work for many years to come.

Trail Building day!
Lots of great things are happening around our city when it comes to trail building in our metro parks. More and more groups are seeking city permission to build and maintain trails all over the Kansas City Metro area in a no pay volunteer effort to expand further access for all to cycling. KCMBC’s KCBC Racing, led by Dan Schaeffer and Leawood Parks and Rec have come together, worked out a plan and are ready to expand the MtB trails and mixed trail use areas in Leawood Park. This is a great opportunity for all to get involved. Here are the details on the first Trail Building day!

What: Trail building- expanding the existing dirt loop at Leawood City Park. This is an excellent cycling advocacy project and great exposure for the club.

When: Sunday, January 20th from 11:00 am- 5:00 pm. Feel free to come and go as it suits your schedule.

Where: Leawood City Park- Meet at the west parking lot closest to the entrance of the park. We will be working on the dirt loop just across the wood bridge to the south. Look for the orange tape. Very easy to find us if you join later in the day.

What to Wear- Wear boots or sturdy shoes, work gloves or insulated gloves. Be prepared to get a little dirty.

What to Bring- The best trail tool is the Pulaski or Mattock for loosening dirt and removing roots . Other tools include hard rakes, loppers, etc. We will have tools available if you do not own any of these or use you in another capacity. Work or insulated gloves are a must.

Important- You will be required to fill out a short Leawood Parks and Rec Volunteer Agreement form. This will be available on site. Volunteers under the age of 18 will need parent/ guardian' s signature.
